As one of the most picturesque and unique areas in South Dakota, Palisades State Park is a popular destination for travelers. Here you’ll find Sioux quartzite formations that line Split Rock Creek and rise out of the water by as much as 50 feet in some areas. Two of the most unique formations are called King and Queen Rock. In 1870 this area was home to a large flour mill powered by the Split Rock Creek and it was also a site where silver was found. Today Palisades State Park offers breathtaking views and has become a favorite place for rock climbers, hikers and kayakers looking for a challenge.
